Statement of Faith
The programmes and activities governing the form of worship of Victory Life Evangelical Temple shall be based upon and at all times be consistent with the following creed and beliefs:
1. We believe in the scriptures of the Old and New Testament in their original writing as fully inspired of God and accept them as the supreme and final authority for faith and life.
2. We believe in one God eternal, existing in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
3. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten of the Father, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary and is true God and true man.
4. We believe that God created man in his own image, that man sinned and hereby incurred the penalty of death, physical and spiritual, that all human beings inherit a sinful nature which issues (increase of those who reach moral responsibility) in actual transgression involving personal guilt.
5. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, a substitution sacrifice, according to the scriptures and that all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood.
6. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus, His ascension into Heaven and His present life as our High Priest and Advocate.
7. We believe in the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
8. We believe that all who repent of their sin and receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.
9. We believe in the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, empowering and equipping believers for service, with the accompanying supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit. We believe that it is accompanied by the phenomenon of speaking in other tongues. We believe in the divinely ordained ministries of Apostles, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher.
10. We believe in the resurrection of both the just and the unjust, the eternal blessedness of the redeemed, and the eternal banishment of those who have rejected the offer of salvation.
11. We believe that the one true Church is the whole company of those who have been redeemed by Jesus Christ and regenerated by the Holy Spirit, that the local Church on earth should take it's character from this conception of the church spiritual and therefore that the new birth and personal confession of Christ are essentials to church membership.
12. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ appointed two ordinances - Baptism in water and the Lord's Supper - to be observed as acts of obedience and as perpetual witnesses to the cardinal facts of the Christian faith, that Baptism is the immersion of the believer in water as a confession of identification with Christ in burial and resurrection and that the Lord's Supper is the partaking of the emblems as symbolical of the Savior's broken body and shed blood, in remembrance of His sacrificial death until He returns.
13. We believe that divine healing was provided for in Old Testament (Exodus 15:2326, Psalms 103:1-3, Isaiah 53:4-5) and is an integral part of the Gospel (Mathew 8:16 -17, Acts 5:6).
14. We believe the Bible teaches that without Holiness no man can see the Lord. We believe in the doctrine of sanctification as a definite, yet progressive work of grace, commencing at the time of the new birth and continuing until the consummation of salvation. (Hebrews 12:14, I Thessalonians 5: 23, 2 Peter 3:18, Philippians 3:12-14, 1 Corinthians 1:30).
15. The Church is open to any further truth which the Holy Spirit may illuminate from the scriptures.
Our Church History
Celebrating 12 Years of the Infilling of the Holy Spirit
Victory Life Evangelical Temple first started in the home of the General Overseer Reverend Anthony and Hannah Amankwah in the Quigney, East London, South Africa in 2001. The congregation was made up of his family and few friends numbering about 30. The meeting briefly moved to Knowtech School and then later to 58 Buffalo Street, East London, South Africa. The church stayed at these premises for 4 years before relocating to their current premises at 24 Buffalo Street, East London, South Africa. With the explosion in attendance it became necessary to move to bigger premises. The current auditorium seats about 250 members.
The initial name Victory Life Ministry was later changed due to a name conflict. Reverend Anthony became the first minister of God to be ordained and accepted as the spiritual leader of the church in 2002. Under his leadership the church has experienced a tremendous growth of about 200 members during this period.
The greatest aim of the church is to empower every member to have a victorious life in Christ Jesus, 1 Cor. 15:57. The church has 2 weekly services, a Sunday morning worship and a Monday teaching and deliverance service, nick-named “Victory Hour”. Many have been affected through the victory hour Monday night service. Many have had their breakthroughs: demon possessed people have been set free, lunatics have regained their consciousness, the jobless are getting jobs, and the sick have been healed.
Currently the church boasts of 8 highly gifted and anointed pastors, and 12 deacons and deaconesses. Under their leadership Victory Life Evangelical Temple continues to grow from strength to strength under the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Some significant developments over the years:
- A branch church started in October 2006 in King Williams Town, South Africa;
- Victory Hour Deliverance Service, an Inter-denominational service;
- Prayer Conference: an annual programme that draws churches and men of God from all over the world;
- Victory Bible College;
- Many departments have been established, including the outward focus of missions, community ministries and church planting.
Today the church is overseen by a board of pastors led by a Visionary Leader, and assisted by a church advisory board.
Various breakthroughs that the Lord brought about in the church:
- The infilling of the Holy Spirit and water baptism of new believers are great opportunities;
- The dignity of women was restored and both genders work together on the team;
- Refreshing through the Holy Spirit;
- A multi-cultural church. The Lord has done a miracle as people from every nation and tribe worship together;
- An emphasis on God as the God over all spheres of life. Our salvation is a full salvation affecting spirit, soul and body and leading to the practical realization of His kingdom purpose.
